CC Behind the Scenes: The Twisted Sister Sweater
If you’ve been following the Closet Chemistry instagram page, then you know that I’m in the middle of building out a wardrobe for work that I think other women would love to own themselves. I first thought about the perfect wardrobe for the cooler months when I was trying to find a suit. I know, I know, I should make my own, but I have such a time crunch that I thought, “Hell, I’ll just buy a really good one until I have time to make one myself.” ….Not so much. I found it odd that I looked at both mid-range and high-end and couldn’t find a single suit that matched quality (fit, fabric, etc.) with the price. It also made me feel terrible for the women that don’t sew and are left with short lasting workwear as their only option. That’s when the first design popped into my head.
I obviously had to create a piece of knitwear and, since I’m a sucker for mohair, the Twisted Sister Sweater was born💕. It ticks all the boxes for me. It’s warm enough to keep me comfortable in a cold office while being airy enough to wear with my blazer (update coming soon). I decided to play with fit and texture by having a puff sleeve that integrates into the bodice with a twisted rib stitch up into the neckline.
Last week I finished up the bodice and sleeve design. I need to finish the raglan shaping with a little wrap and turn short row technique to keep the front neckline from choking me out with wear. Then, on to the final written pattern and finalizing the pricing. Overall, I’m super happy with the sweater so far and plan on finishing up in the next week.
